TemboTusk is partisapating in the 2011 Toys for Tots event at the Camp Pendleton Marine Base!

This year’s toy drive ornginzed by Dave Druck from Trasharoo is set to be one of the best ands most rewarding events of the year.

This is the 5th annual Toys for Tots event teamed up with the Us Marines at Camp Pendleton. Partispants will be bringing toys to the needy while camping on the Marine Base over night.

Over 1000 toys were collected and donated to the Toys for Tots!

Sand Chef Contest 2011

TheSand Chef Contest

Congratulations to all the Sand Chefs. A great job by was done by all
the teams under very tough, cold, windy conditions. The food was outstanding as
was the very large crowd cheering on the contestants. The secret ingredient this year was Coffee!

I did not get the names of all the judges, but we did have a few celebrities at
the table. Woody our benevolent IH8MUD dictator took the judging very
seriously while posting to MUD at the same time, good multi tasking!! PismoJim
of course whose presence alone makes SnT possible. Cristo Slee with
his amazing Slee Limo rounded out the celebs.

First place was won by Pablo and his wife a two person team. Not
only did they win the cash pool, they won a TemboTusk Extreme
Duty flat slide, Buffalo Straps and a box full of bottles of wine or alcohol
from Slee Off-Road.

Second place by just one point was Ross Woody and his team the Effing
Betty Crockers.

Third place in the Sand Chef rankings was Roberto and his team the
Yopos. Good job Roberto, the food was amazing. He spent the next hour or so
after the end of the contest, feeding the masses that were hanging out near his
cook station!

Chef Alvaro out did himself this year with an outstanding Sand Chef Contest.

Cooking on the beach is FUN!

Like the famous FoodTV show, the Surf N Turf Sand Chef competition pits La Creme de La Creme of Cruiser Chefs against each other in an exciting cooking competition.

Master Chef Alvaro Rodriguez organizes this competition and provides a colorful play by play. Judges and spectators are treated to scrumptious delights as the entries are prepared and served on the beach.

Participants have 90 minutes to come up with two savory dishes, plus one dessert based on a secret ingredient. The secret ingredient will be revealed the previous night. This will give teams enough time for to get their ingredients and recipes ready for the evening’s showdown.

There will be a panel of 4 judges, plus the Surf and Turf’s PismoJim. Each entry will be judged in 3 categories. The categories are: Taste, Presentation, & Originality. Taste will have a scale of 1 to 5 points. While presentation and originality will max out at 3 points. The wining team will be the one who is able to score the greater amount of points.

Like before, each team will have its own name and maximum of 3 members. There will be a maximum of 7 teams. Each team must provide all their ingredients, including the secret ingredient, plus all their cooking equipment. Each team will bring their own setup (Cooking table, stove, grill, cookware, lights, ETC). Plus 7″ dessert plates, used to serve their creations to the judges.

One of the most important pieces of equipment on an extended overland trip is my 12v refrigerator/freezer. There are a number of manufacturers out there offering a quality product with a wide price range.

I recently acquired a new Edgestar 43qt model. When deciding to purchase a 12v fridge you should consider a number of factors. You just can’t throw it in the back of your rig along with the rest of the gear. Rubithon 2011

TemboTusk will make its way through the Rubicon with the help of our local club members Roberto and Cathead. Thanks guys!!

For those of you going to Rubithon 2011 this year, be sure to attend the raffle.

TemboTusk is donating an Extreme Duty Flat slide with a Cutting Board Attachment. We will also be donating a number of Buffalo Fridge Straps.

We plan on heading out to Lake Tahoe on Tuesday and hitting the Rubicon Trail Wednesday morning and slowly make our way to the Springs.

This will be our first Rubithon event. Be sure to say HI if you see us!

Dave and Yoshi from www.Trasharoo.com organized this years Toys for Tots run again. For the 4th year in a row we gathered out at Cal Poly Pomona for a great cause. Each year Dave and Yoshi put on a event where various off road enthusiasts meet up to bring a toy and show their support for the Marines Toys 4 Tots Foundation. Most show up with a toy or two, or five and gawk at the other off road rigs that show up. Think of it like a car show with a cause. There’s food, a raffle and trophies given out to special folks that went above and beyond to help.

TemboTusk was pleased to be invited and participate as a vendor. Over 175 toys were collected from all the attendees and given to the Marines for the Toys for Tots Foundation.

Road Trip to Baja!

TemboTusk went on short weekend road trip to San Felipe just before the Thanksgiving holiday. Our goal was to test out some new LoadSpotter designs on rough Baja roads. As a matter of fact, it was the same weekend as the Baja 1000! We came across some pretty tricked out vehicles on our way. Left us in the dust!!

For those of you worried about going to Baja … we could not have felt safer and more welcomed. We went through Mexicali’s main border crossing at about 8 am on Friday. Traffic was light and the roads were very good. The road to San Felipe is much improved and without any pot holes! The mighty Interstate 5 through Los Angeles should be in such good shape!

We arrived in San Felipe and were sitting down at Rice & Beans having a beer and grilled shrimp by 11:59 am. By the time the weekend was over, we sampled every shrimp taco stand in town. We were trying to find the best one. I think we will have to come back and try again, as we were undecided as to which was best. They were all very good and currently calling my name!

Wish we could have stayed longer. Maybe next time!

Due to the very good road conditions, we will need to do our LoadSpotter testing much further down into Baja. That’s just a shame!!

Panamint Valley Days

November 12-14.

California Association of 4WD Clubs, Inc

TemboTusk joined the huge group of off-road enthusiasts to find our way to old abandoned gold & silver mines in the Panamint Valley area just outside of Death Valley National Park.

If you have never been to Panamint you have no idea what you are missing. Incredible history, beautiful canyons, and the most amazing geology Mother Earth has created. The entire weekend will be filled with runs all throughout the valley and up into the rock strewn mountains.
